Spiritwood Stockyards was built in 1972. It was a partnership by three Prince Albert, SK livestock order buyers Reg Nelson, George Beilhartz and Don Anderson bringing a much needed business to the area. Spiritwood Stockyards provides an outlet for the demand of high quality cattle that are produced by our savvy livestock producers whose business is the cattle industry.
The first sale was in the fall of 1972. Since then Spiritwood Stockyards has had a sale every Wednesday other than our summer break (part month of June through July). In 2002 Brian and Pat Jacobson bought a share in the business and in 2007 became sole owners. In the summer of 2017 their Son-in-law Justin Kahl joined the business with the intent to take over the business. We are Family-owned and committed to local cattle producers.
In 2008 Brian introduced his innovative auction method of show penning. It is an individual sort of producer’s cattle that are sorted, weighed with a gradual pencil shrink then penned in bedded feed and water pens. By Show penning our producer’s cattle in uniform groups we are presenting them in their fullest potential to the buyers to get maximum returns. Our buyers and the feedlots really like this sale method as the cattle are better managed and the sales are speedy, with arrival at the feedlot is a calf whose health has been considered.
Our weekly Auction is broadcast via the internet through TEAM. We have long time experienced staff that work and sort the cattle. We are well known for paying attention to detail and being fully committed to our customers. Customer satisfaction is our greatest asset.
